What is your favorite class to teach?
I enjoy teaching cybersecurity and risk management courses. In particular, I like IT 438: IT Risk Management. Every company has systems and data critical to its success that, if compromised, could not only damage or collapse that company, but affect all customers, partners, vendors, and more. Cyber Risk Management is a critical consideration in all industries, and it is important that Risk Management principles help guide decision-making at all levels.
My advice to students...
Be curious and a self-starter. Learn, explore, and search outside of the knowledge and materials provided in your classes. Develop the ability to learn new systems, processes, and technologies quickly because, once you are out of school and in the industry, you will often find yourself in situations where the answers are not just handed to you. Stay curious.
Brian holds professional certificates in Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and CRISC (Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control) from ISACA.
