Born and raised in Black Diamond, Washington, Kam graduated from Tahoma High School in 1997. As a sophomore in high school, he began his fire service career as a volunteer firefighter with Black Diamond Fire (King#44) and got his EMT during his senior year. Kam was hired by Boeing Fire Department 11/11/2001 in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, where he was a Firefighter/EMT, Fire Inspector, and eventually spend his last two years as a Captain in the training division. At Boeing, he was responsible for all EMS and technical rescue (high/low angle and confined space) for nearly 500 firefighters at fourteen of their fire stations across the country. As a Fire Inspector, he was responsible for the inspection of office, manufacturing, flight line and hazardous material storage/operations, as well as the 787 airplane program from design/development and construction of the factory through the aircrafts first flight. Kam left Boeing Fire in 2013 to pursue his lifelong desire of becoming a Paramedic, attending the CWU Paramedicine program. Upon completing medic school, Kam went to AMR Yakima and worked as a Paramedic, FTO, and Supervisor. In March 2025, Kam was hired as a Fire Inspector with Yakima Fire Department and still works part-time as a Paramedic. Kam also teaches CPR/PALS/ACLS courses for Cascade Training Center throughout the northwest. Kam began teaching for the CWU Paramedic Program in January 2021.
Outside of work, Kam enjoys snow skiing, hiking, boating and just about anything outdoors. He can be found at Husky Stadium every Saturday in the fall, as he has been a season ticket holder for over 15 years. He also enjoys spending time with his two nieces and family on Lake Sawyer in Black Diamond.
