Background:

Dr. Yurim Lee is an Assistant Professor of Economics at CWU, specializing in theoretical macroeconomics. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from University of Washington - Seattle, where her dissertation focused on labor and product market inefficiencies and policy reforms under the existence of self-employment as an occupational choice in the labor market using the DSGE model.

Dr. Lee's research explores business cycle dynamics, with a particular interest in self-employment and entrepreneurship. Recently her research has branched out to the role of natural resources in economic policies, sentiment analysis using large language models (LLMs), and ESG ratings.

Since 2021, Dr. Lee has been leading the CWU Student Price Index (SPI) Project as the Principal Investigator (PI). The project develops a price index of the cost of living for college students in Ellensburg by collecting and cleaning monthly price data, administering campus-wide surveys, and sharing the findings with the local and regional communities.

In addition to research, Dr. Lee is passionate about teaching. She offers courses in macroeconomics and money and banking, and strives to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment with a focus on working with real-world data.
