Christina Denison
Executive Director, Douglas Honors College and McNair Scholars Program
Dr. Christina Denison, a first-generation college graduate, is deeply rooted in the Wildcat community, earning both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Central Washington University. Before her role at the William O. Douglas Honors College, she was a legal assistant. When offered an opportunity to explore a new path at CWU, she eagerly accepted. Starting as an office assistant within the Honors College, Dr. Denison seized every chance to expand her skills and responsibilities. Over time, she progressed to various roles with the Honors College and ultimately Director of the Douglas Honors College. Dr. Denison furthered her education with a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Northwest Nazarene University. Her research focus on first-generation college students in honors programs reflects her professional interests and personal background. In 2024, Dr. Denison was selected for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities Emerging Leaders Program.
During her 19-year tenure with the William O. Douglas Honors College, Dr. Denison has implemented a strengths-based advising model, including strengths-based cohort seminars, and provided valuable student success expertise for curriculum revision and enhancements. This has significantly enhanced the honors educational experience while offering essential support to faculty.
Dr. Denison enjoys spending time with her two daughters and her husband, Jim, a local attorney. Dr. Denison's daughters graduated from the Honors College at their respective universities—Washington State University and Central Washington University. In the winter months, when she's not spending time with her family, you will find her shushing down the mountain at Mission Ridge Ski & Board Resort in Wenatchee. All the other months, she spends time wishing it was winter.
