Yuba Siwakoti
Assistant Professor
Dr. Yuba Raj Siwakoti has received a PhD in Cybersecurity and Machine Learning from Howard University, Washington DC, USA. Dr. Siwakoti received a Master of Science in Network and System Administration from University of Oslo, Norway and Bachelor of Computer engineering from Punchwork Campus, Tribhuvan University, Nepal. Prior to joining CWU, he worked about 15 years in teaching and research in Nepal, Norway and USA. His current research includes Cybersecurity and machine learning including Anomaly detection, Zero-Day attack detection, Vulnerability and Exploit assessment and working on countermeasures to make systems and infrastructure more secure. Previously, he worked in Mobile Broadband measurement and analysis
Research
Dr. Siwakoti's research focuses on AI-Driven Cybersecurity: leveraging AI for better cybersecurity, using AI/ML for cyber-resilient systems, and investigating fairness, explainability, security issues in AI models. He has also been working in anomaly detection, vulnerability assessment, and predicting compromised infrastructure.

My advice to students
- Find the topics or areas that motivate you.
- Set the objectives/goals accordingly.
- Work progressively to achieve the goals.
- Remember, learning is an iterative process that takes time and require failure(s).
- Accept that failing is normal, practice failing and try to fail forward which ultimately pave the way for success.
