MAJOR KURT W. WALLIN Maj. Kurt “Rowdy” Wallin is the Recruiting Officer and Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies for the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC), Detachment 895, Central Washington University, Ellensburg, Wash. He oversees cadre training and professional development, and leads, recruits, trains, counsels, and evaluates prospective Air and Space Force officers to grow them into the finest leaders in the profession of arms. Maj. Wallin is a 2011 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. He has served in three operational tours, two of which were overseas, as well as having worked with 15 different countries and multiple other agencies on Personnel Recovery and Special Forces missions. During this time, he has served as squadron, and group executive officer, as well as flight commander and as an exchange officer flying with the German Luftwaffe. As flight commander, he ensured the 1st line of the Air Force squadron helicopter Aggressor training versus MI-24 outside of the Weapon School and helped lead the rebuild of the rescue compound after a TBM attack. Maj. Wallin is excellent in emergency situations having faced two catastrophic aircraft emergencies saving both aircraft and 10 lives. He has deployed three times in support of OEF and OIR missions, flying a total of 258 combat hours, and has rescued seven lives. During his previous assignment as Weapons and Tactics Officer, 4th Squadron in Helicopter Wing 64, Laupheim, Germany. Maj. Wallin was embedded in the H145M German Special Forces squadron, NATO's premier SOF flying squadron. He was the CSAR Subject Matter Expert building tactics to increase the survivability of 90 aircrew, 12 support personnel, and 15 aircraft in near peer combat. Maj. Wallin also bolstered NATO and U.S. relations by flying in 28 exercises and completing his Combat Ready status in record time, which demonstrated U.S. flying capabilities and allowed him to network and create multiple training opportunities for his unit and NATO partners.
