Building our Future

We are officially under construction!

North Academic Complex

The North Academic Complex (NAC) at Central Washington University is a 104,200-square-foot academic facility designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, currently under construction and slated for completion in 2026.

This new addition to CWU will feature a sustainable heating and cooling system powered by an open-loop ground source heat pump, drawing from the Ellensburg Aquifer. This eco-friendly approach reinforces our commitment to environmentally conscious growth.

Roughly 95% of the university’s greenhouse gas emissions are directly attributable to how we heat, cool, and power our campus infrastructure and operations. The North Academic Complex and GeoEco Plant will make a significant impact toward achieving our institutional goal of reducing our greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030.

GeoEco Plant

The GeoEco Plant is a key part of CWU's sustainability efforts, using geothermal energy from the Ellensburg Aquifer to heat and cool the North Academic Complex and other campus buildings. By connecting to our utility loop, this facility will help reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and pave the way for future geothermal projects on campus.
