Creating Internal Links

    Internal Links

    An internal link is any web address that is found within your departments website at cwu.edu/[Your Department Name]/.

    Step 1: Highlight the text you would like to link.

    Step 2: Select the Link button.

    Step 3: With the Link pane open, begin typing the Title of the page you want to link to for an auto complete selection to appear. This is not case sensitive. With the page selected, click OK.

    You may select the link and reopen the link pane to change the target page or type of link. You may also select the Unlink icon (directly adjacent to the Link icon) in order to remove the existing link.



Creating External Links

    External Links

    An external link is any web address not located on your department website. If you are working with https://www.cwu.edu/arts and wish to link to a page located on https://www.cwu.edu/theatre, an external link is required.

    Step 1: Highlight the text you would like to link.

    Step 2: Select the Link button appearing as a globe icon on the editor toolbox.

    Step 3: With the Link pane open, select URL from the drop-down bar.

    Step 4: Navigate to the webpage you wish to link to on a separate page. Copy the Web Address (URL) and paste it into the Link pane.

    Step 5: Select the Target tab. From the drop-down bar, select New Window (_blank). With the selection made, press OK. The text will now link to the external web page and open in a new tab.

    As with Internal Links, you may edit existing links to change the target, the link type, or break the link.


Creating E-mail Links

    E-mail

    An E-mail link will open up an email with the specified information filled out.

    Step 1: Highlight the text you would like to link.

    Step 2: Select the Link button appearing as a globe icon on the editor toolbox.

    Step 3: With the Link pane open, select E-mail from the drop-down bar.

    Step 4: Fill out the fields as desired. Only the E-mail Address is required. Only use CWU email addresses here. Click OK to complete the link.

    As with Internal Links, you may select existing links to change the target, the link type, or break the link.


Creating Document/Image Links

  • Document/Image Links (text instructions)

    Document/Image Links

    A document/image link is any link that goes to a document or image from your file browser.

    Step 1: Select the text that will become the Document or Image link. This is called the link’s live text.

    Step 2: Click the Link button in the editor’s tool bar.

    Step 3: Select URL from the Link Type drop down.

    Step 4: Click on the Browse Server button below the “protocol” field to open the File Browser.

    Step 5: To link to a document, click on the Documents folder in the left-hand column. Notice that the title of the “Documents’” folder will become bold to signify that the folder is selected.

    Step 6: The documents in the Documents’ folder will be displayed in the right column. To add a link to any of the documents in the Documents’ folder, double-click on the document name.

    Step 7: If the document does not exist in the “Documents’” folder, you must upload it. To upload a document, with the “documents’” folder selected, click on the Upload button in the upper left-hand corner of the window.

    Step 8: Click on “Add files” from the dialog window that shows up. Use your computer’s file browser to find and select the file to upload. Click on “Open” to add the file to the upload queue.

    Step 9: To commit and upload the file, click on the “Upload” button underneath the “Create thumbnails” checkboxes. (Do not select any of these checkboxes) Keep in mind that the maximum file size that you can upload is 2 mb.

    Step 10: If you are done uploading files, you may close the upload dialog window and return to the “document” folder. The file that you uploaded will automatically be selected. To link to this file, double click on it.

    Step 11: Drupal will generate the link’s code. Click the Target tab on the Link Properties window and select New Window (_blank) from the Target drop down. Click Okay.

    As with Internal Links, you may edit existing links to change the target, the link type, or break the link.


Embedding YouTube Videos (2016 Theme)

  • Embedding YouTube Videos (text instructions)

    For the 2016 theme:

    Click on the location you would like to embed the YouTube Video.

    Click the embed YouTube Video button in the editor’s toolbar.


    Copy the embed code from the YouTube Video and paste it into the embed field

    OR

    Paste the URL of the YouTube video into the URL field

    Check “Make responsive”.

    Uncheck “Show suggested videos at the video’s end


    Click okay. You are done.

Anchor Links

Anchor Links are what allow us to navigate to specific sections on a page. Anchors are unique to each individual page, that is, Anchors are not shared across the website.

Step 1: Place your cursor in the position you want your Anchor. Select the Anchor icon.

Step 2: Type in the name of your Anchor and press OK.

Step 3: Highlight the text you would like to link.

Step 4: Select the Link button appearing as a globe icon on the editor toolbox.

Step 5: With the Link pane open, select Link to anchor in the text from the drop-down bar.

Step 6: From the Anchor Name drop-down bar, select the desired Anchor from the list of Anchors on the page and press OK. If there are no Anchors, return to Step 1.

As with Internal Links, you may select existing links to change the target, the link type, or break the link.


Block Quotes

Block Quotes are visual tools used to emphasize and draw the eye. The Block Quote option appears as a single quotation mark in the editor menu (").

Tables

Tables in this editor support text, pictures, links and even videos in each cell.

Table Icon

Step 1: Click the Table icon.

Step 2: With the Table pane open, adjust settings as desired. Set the Width to 100% and click OK.

To adjust any settings for the Table, right-click anywhere in the table and select Table Properties.

Inserting Images

Images are used to illustrate and give a visual medium, they are not meant for navigation.

Step 1: Select the Image icon.

Step 2: With the Image pane open, select Browse Server.

Step 3: Select an image from your department's server. Select Insert File.

Step 4: Enter Alternate Text. This should be a simple description of what the picture is displaying, and is used to aid people using screen readers.

Step 5: Adjust settings and select OK.. *Use percents (%) for Width with no Height for optimal results
