Top Industry Publication Highlights CWU Dining Services in Monthly Feature

Friday, June 11, 2021

CWU Dining Services has been recognized as the Food Service Operation of the Month by FoodService Director (FSD), a multi-platform media organization that covers and promotes the noncommercial food service industry.

The extensive online feature includes three separate articles looking at how CWU Dining Services has changed its approach to on-campus dining; its robust training program for new employees; and a question-and-answer with Director Dean Masuccio.

Masuccio talks about how, after three years in the lead role, he is beginning to realize his vision for the department. The way he sees it, “we’re not a food and beverage provider; we’re here to support the students through fantastic experiences. We shared that message far and wide to the staff and campus community, because that kind of philosophy is all about relationships.”

He added that the support of campus leadership the Dining Services management team both have been essential to the department’s transformation.

“Without them, there’s no way I could do half the things we accomplish,” Masuccio is quoted as saying.

He notes that he is also looking forward to what the future holds after weathering the challenges of the past year and a half.

“I’m excited to see how the technology piece continues,” he said. “We plan on remaining cashless in the fall. And we’ve made more efforts on mobile ordering. I don’t see that type of thing going away after COVID.”

For more than 30 years, FSD has served as the most readable and educational publication in the noncommercial food service industry. Since publishing its final print edition in late 2020, FSD’s website now serves as the mainstay of its industry coverage.
