Literacy Minor

Literacy Program Mission Statement

Faculty and staff are committed to ensuring graduates are prepared to be outstanding educational leaders and facilitators of learning who demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to educate and work within a diverse school population.

Why a Literacy Minor?

The Literacy Minor, with campus and field experiences, is designed to prepare literacy teachers and strengthen background preparation of secondary, middle school, elementary special education, and early childhood teachers.  Your enrollment in literacy courses will deepen your knowledge about how to teach literacy to all students.

It is wise to have two endorsements when applying for teaching positions. Many students secure their first positions because of their expertise in more than one field. At least one of our graduates was able to save her job because she possessed two endorsements. This is the perfect additional endorsement for many majors including Elementary Education, Special Education, Early Childhood Education, English Language Arts Education, and Middle Level Education.

Required Literacy courses

Literacy minors are eligible for the Washington State P-12 Reading Endorsement.
