Central Washington University welcomes Wildcat families
to Ellensburg on May 10, 11 and 12

Family Weekend is a longstanding tradition at CWU. During this weekend we invite family members to campus to visit their students and participate in fun activities.

Greenhouse Exploration
1 p.m. - 5 p.m. • CWU Greenhouse
The CWU greenhouse facility is composed of four separate rooms or "houses." Each room has a different environment. Our greenhouse is utilized for faculty and student projects, classroom visits and tour groups. Plants in the greenhouse are from all over the world - from the southwestern desert to tropical rain forests. The greenhouse is located off of D Street north of the Science building.

Barrio Fiesta
4 p.m. - 6 p.m. • Barto Lawn
Traditional Filipino arts & crafts festival with cultural performances, music and more! Enjoy authentic food from Lutong Pinoy, sweet treats from Lemon Thyme Macarons, and delicious bites from CWU's own food truck. 

Central Theatre Ensemble presents “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”
7:30 p.m. • McConnell Auditorium • www.cwu.edu/tickets
A New Musical, Based on the Victor Hugo Novel and Songs from the Disney Film. The sweeping score and powerful story make The Hunchback of Notre Dame an instant classic. Audiences will be swept away by the magic of this truly unforgettable musical. Parental Guidance recommended.

Comedian: Tyler Boeh
8 p.m. • SURC Theatre
Join us for a night of laughs with Comedian Tyler Boeh, whose comedy has been described as high-energy, intelligent, physical, and silly. His quick wit and award winning “beat-boxing” talent bring audiences to hysterical heights. He continues to perform across the country at comedy clubs, colleges, and theaters bringing his incredible brand of humor wherever he goes. You can hear his comedy on iTunes, Sirius XM Radio, and Pandora, but don’t miss the chance to see Tyler perform live!

Yakima River Float
9:45 a.m. check in, departs Outdoor Pursuits & Rentals (OPR) at 10 a.m., returns at 2 p.m.
enjoy the beauty of the Yakima River Canyon, one of the most scenic areas in the state. We'll provide guides, transportation, gear and lunch! *Must be 12 years of age to participate.

Peruvian Dance workshop with Fabiola Serra (TusuyPeru)
10:00 a.m. - Noon • $10 suggested donation
Learn about native Peruvian dance in this energetic workshop with Fabiola Serra, lifelong dancer and director of Ellensburg dance group TusuyPeru!  In Peru, diverse cultures have produced many rich dancing traditions. Try out Peruvian dance techniques while also exploring the cultural roots of these dances. This is a great opportunity to show off your dancing skills, learning something new, or just spend time with family and friends!

Wild Horse Wind Farm Tour
10 a.m. check in, departs SURC East Patio at 10:15 a.m., returns by 12:15 p.m.
12:45 p.m. check-in, departs SURC East Patio at 1 p.m., returns by 3 p.m.
Check out those wind turbines up close, see an impressive solar array and examine the fascinating exhibit at the visitor center.

CWU PUSH 5k for Hunger
9:30 a.m. check in/Zumba, race begins at 10:00 a.m. • Barto Lawn (Chestnut Mall)
Join the CWU PUSH club in a 5k run/walk around campus! Enjoy free snacks, giveaways, music, and be sure to come early to get in your Zumba warm-up at 9:30am. Register by April 27th to guarantee a t-shirt! The CWU PUSH club will be collecting food donations to help fill our pantries across campus for students in need. Learn more about how the PUSH club assists students at CWU.edu/push. 

Thorp Mill Tour & Museum
11 a.m. - 4 p.m. • 11640 N. Thorp Hwy, Thorp WA 98946
Guided tours are available Saturday & Sunday during the summer travel season (May-August). Throughout the entire year, visitors are welcome during daylight hours to take a self-guided tour of the mill grounds and view an interpretive exhibit about the site's history. *Transportation NOT provided.

Historic Downtown Ellensburg Tour
11 a.m. & 1 p.m. • Departs from Kittitas County Historical Museum, 3rd Avenue near Pine Street
Discover architecture, hidden gems, learn about the great Ellensburg fire, and discover many other interesting facts. You'll also meet merchants and hear about the events and festivals that make Ellensburg a great destination and home away from home.

Free Recreation Center Fitness Pass
10 a.m - 11 p.m. • Recreation Center
Get your sweat on with the family in the CWU Recreation Center all day Saturday, for free! During Recreation Center hours of operation, you will have access to the facility and all of our amenities (see Climbing Wall program listing for information on bouldering). Please note that age restrictions apply, per Recreation Center policy (visit www.cwu.edu/rec for details).

Wildcat Carnival (hosted by the CWU Residence Hall Association)
12 - 6 p.m. • Chestnut Mall/Barto Lawn
Do you enjoy playing games like cornhole or yard Yahtzee? Come on down to play games, get food, and have fun with members of RHA!

2019 Juried Undergraduate Student Art Exhibit

An annual exhibition showcasing outstanding undergraduate student artwork created during the past academic year.

Bouldering at the Climbing Wall
1 p.m. - 4 p.m. • Recreation Rock Wall
Get a close look at our 50 foot climbing wall, and "boulder"  (climbing below 12 feet) for free!
*Minimum age is 6 yrs. old.  No experience necessary.

Planetarium Show
1 p.m. & 2 p.m. • Science Building II (Room 106)
The Lydig Planetarium is a fully digital planetarium using 6 projectors and running a World Wide Telescope. Special showings just for Family Weekend attendees!

Behind the Scenes Tour: The Hunchback of Notre Dame
2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. 
Meet at McConnell Auditorium steps (South side facing University Way) 5 minutes before tour
Join CWU Theatre Arts for a tour of McConnell Auditorium and the set of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Get an insider’s view of the theatre and what goes on behind the curtain. Tour includes a quick visit to the costume shop, scenic shop, dressing rooms, green room, our two performance spaces, plus information on how theatre gets made. Tour lasts approximately 45 minutes, good for all ages.

Spring into the Farm
2 p.m. - 4 p.m. • Wildcat Neighborhood Farm, 14th and Alder St.
Join the Wildcat Neighborhood Farm for a work party to prepare and plant for its first season. All are welcome!

Challenge Course: Alpine Tower & Giant Swing
3 p.m. - 5 p.m. • CWU Challenge Course
Come challenge your family members by climbing 50 feet on our Alpine Tower or swinging 35 feet high on our Giant Swing!  Participants will get the chance to maneuver their way across a tight rope, scale the 50-foot high Alpine tower and soar through the air on the giant swing. No experienced needed. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes and active clothing. *Must be 8 years of age to participate.

Yakima River Float
