Please help us share SOURCE with Central students. The event being virtual for the last two years means that many students don't know about SOURCE so we're looking for your support in gaining SOURCE momentum.
You can help us by (1) Telling your students about SOURCE, (2) Signing up to judge presentations, (3) Volunteering to be session moderator, (4) Attending SOURCE. More details about each of these options are below.
(1) Tell your students about SOURCE.
Once a year Central Washington University comes together for SOURCE, a celebration of the scholarship, research, and creative endeavors of CWU students. This year's SOURCE will happen the week of May 16th and there are many ways for you to participate. Starting Monday, May 16th you can view pre-recorded presentations online. We need faculty and staff to provide feedback to students about their SOURCE presentations. This year students had to register to receive this feedback so please know that if you judge you will be helping students who want feedback to improve their professional presentation skills. If you would like to provide students feedback and supportive comments about their presentations please sign up here today https://volunteersignup.org/D7MRQ
After you sign up to judge, we will assign you 4 or 5 presentations (oral, poster and/or creative works) and email details about those presentations and a link to the Qualtrics judging form. We ask you to complete judging by Friday, May 20th at 5pm so that we can organize judging materials and begin reviewing award nominations before the June 2nd Award Ceremony. If you are able to judge more presentations, feel free to sign up for multiple judging slots.
Note that we should not assign you to review your own students’ work. If you know others who may be willing to review presentations, please ask them to sign up.
The goal of SOURCE is to create a professional first conference experience. You can help that by introducing the speaker, keeping the sessions moving on time, and asking audience members to ask questions. We have set up sessions based on discipline, please sign up if you are available, https://volunteersignup.org/JMXBP.
That should address the main questions but If you have any further questions or comments, please contact us, source(at)cwu.edu.
There are only 2 types of presentation options this year: Virtual Poster (pre-recorded), or in-person/Livestream presentation at SURC.
These are pre-recorded 4-10 mins presentations, uploaded, and then watched asynchronously by other students and community members. These will only be viewed virtually. Students should upload the presentation images and the presentation via https://source2022.sched.com/, Note that there is a 50mb limit to any uploads. These presentations are green on https://source2022.sched.com/.
Notes to support you in creating your presentation:
Timeline:
These will be done live/in-person (synchronously) at SURC in Ellensburg or via Zoom (for our synchronous /non-local presenters) on Wednesday, May 18 or Thursday, May 19.
Notes to support you in creating your presentation:
When are where is my talk? You can find your presentation time -and- your presentation location online, https://source2022.sched.com/grid. Selecting Search on the top right allows you to search for your presentation or your name and find your exact presentation.
When do you need to be there? You will see that your talk is one of a few in a themed session. It is appropriate to be at SOURCE for the full session. If you cannot please arrive more than 20 minutes before your talk. You will need to check-in at the SOURCE desk outside the SURC Ballrooms and then be able to sit through the talk before yours.
How do you get the files to us? Please share before 7pm on Tuesday night. On Tuesday 5-7 you can go to the 2nd floor of the Ellensburg SURC to upload your presentations on the specific laptops for each room. If you can’t attend on Tuesday you can email us source@cwu.edu with your presentation or share the link to your presentation through One Drive. You should share the link so that anyone at Central can open it and then we will download it on the computer before your presentation.
What if I can’t be in Ellensburg to present in person? Anyone planning to PRESENT VIRTUALLY during the live events on Wednesday and Thursday. We must have your contact information by Tuesday at noon. This will allow us to add you as panelists to the zoom call. Otherwise we will not be able to have you present virtually. This cannot be adjusted after 5pm Tuesday.
How can I share this talk with others? We will have a live Zoom webinar going the full SOURCE time. You should see the Zoom link to share on your individual presentation. The virtual audience will not be visible but will be able to see and hear your presentation. To find your link use https://source2022.sched.com/grid.

The mission of the Symposium of University Research and Creative Expression (SOURCE) is to provide a university-wide forum for Central Washington University (CWU) students, encouraging equity, diversity, and inclusivity, representing all disciplines and experience levels, to present their mentored research, scholarship, and creative works in a juried environment that meets professional conference standards and expectations.
Accomplishing this mission will foster best-practice-teaching and mentoring, promote the significance and relevance of research, scholarship and creative works, engage a range of CWU stakeholders in distinguishing aspects of CWU’s educational environment, and enhance the professional skills of students.
Connect with us thru Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram (@CWUSource) to learn more about our student researchers and other OUR opportunities. And use #CWUSOURCE2021 when sharing your SOURCE ideas and pictures so others can see what SOURCE is all about. #CWUTogether
SOURCE supports several awards for student and mentor work.
Student presentation awards
These will be awarded after faculty and community judges provide feedback to presentations during the week of SOURCE.
Faculty mentor awards
Any student may nominate their mentor for the Mentor of the Year award, sponsored by the United Faculty of Central. Students submit a 500-word nomination essay discussing the support and mentorship they received from their faculty mentor.
reSOURCE Award
CWU Libraries and the Friends of the Brooks Library will award up to four SOURCE projects the reSOURCE award for outstanding use of library resources in your project. This includes books, journals, Archives & Special Collections, databases, library equipment, and even our programs and spaces! The library faculty and staff themselves are resources in your research journey. See https://www.lib.cwu.edu/ for all that the CWU Libraries have to offer. To apply, write a brief essay, less than 250 words, on how you used the library and/or its resources in your work and submit the essay with SOURCE abstracts (Feb 24th – Apr 3rd). A library committee will select the winners and each of the four awardees will receive a gift basket prize.
