Fall 2019 Merit Scholarships

**UPDATE** Merit award offers will be CANCELED if the student has not confirmed their 2019-2020 CWU admission by June 1, 2019. This confirmation can be accomplished in any one of three ways:


Central Washington University is proud to be one of the best values in education. We are also proud that we award over 17 Million in scholarships each year. The merit scholarships below recognize the academic achievements for Washington residents who are new First-Year and Transfer students. These awards are tuition waivers and can only be applied to CWU tuition. You are automatically awarded if you meet the following criteria:

High School GPA Scholarships

Requires minimum 2.5 CWU cumulative GPA to renew.


High School Test Scores Scholarships

Non-renewable: offered for one year only.


Transfer Students

Minimum Transfer GPA 3.5 for Ellensburg campus, 3.25 for online and CWU centers. Requires a minimum 2.5 CWU cumulative GPA to renew.


Additonal Merit Scholarships Offered for One Year:

  • Early Scholar: $500 tuition waiver to CWU Cornerstone and Running Start students with at least a 3.00 CWU GPA.

  • Douglas Honors College (DHC): $1,000 tuition waiver to First-Year students in the CWU William O. Douglas Honors College. For more information, go to CWU.Edu/Douglas-Honors.

  • Science Talent Expansion Program (STEP) Majors: $1,000 tuition waiver to eligible First-Year students who participate in the STEP Program. Visit CWU.Edu/STEP for details.

Please note: Eligible students who apply after February 1st will be considered for merit awards as funds remain available. The total amount waived cannot exceed 80% of CWU tuition charges.

Academic Merit Awards are subject to change on an annual basis without notice.
