Recreation

Employment

With close to 175 student employees working within Recreation, we are the second-largest student employer at Central Washington University. Recreation offers opportunities for students to get involved on campus in our various departments, which provides them with a meaningful and rewarding campus experience.

CWU Recreation has many different departments, all of which have opportunities for student employment. Job opportunities include (but are not limited to): officiating in Intramural Sports; working as a Camp CWOO kid’s summer camp counselor; serving patrons as a front desk attendant; doing social media, marketing and promotion; strength and cardio floor staff; leading clients as a personal trainer or group fitness instructor; maintaining our vast and glorious facility as a custodial team member; event planning and management for club sports; leading students on discovery trips as an OPR trip leader; leading clients through adventure as a Challenge Course and/or Climbing Wall staff member; the list goes on!

Students who are interested in working for the Recreation Center are encouraged to attend one of our quarterly Hiring Information Sessions. At this session, you will learn more about the mission and vision of Recreation, the different departments within Recreation, and which jobs are available within those departments for the upcoming quarter. Not every department will have openings each quarter. Students interested in attending are encouraged to bring a cover letter and resume to this info session.

It is recommended that applicants consult with the CWU Career Services Center in order to provide their best possible resume and cover letter. The earlier students visit the Career Services offices, the more likely it will be that they will get help and will receive a priority interview time slot.

If you have further questions about our hiring process, please direct them to recreation@cwu.edu or our graduate assistant of Recruitment and Retention, Catherine.hoffmann@cwu.edu .
