Hispanic Heritage Month Presents “The Milagro Beanfield War”
The One Earth: This Much We Know is True film series and the Center for Latino(a) and Latin American Studies (CLLAS) open their curtains for the second film in the series, “The Milagro Beanfield War,” Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. in Dean Hall, room 104 with Dr. Jason Dormady presenting. This event is free and open to the public.
When opposition against the development of a resort in the small town of Milagro can’t get a foothold, local activists Ruby Archuleta and Charlie Bloom fear for the eventual displacement of the local Hispanic farmers. But, as one farmer illegally diverts water to irrigate his bean field, a spark ignites and draws the attention of the governor lest the lucrative opportunities of the resort disappear. Attempts to solve the conflict may instead launch a small war.
