Protecting the rights of others and ensuring the public’s safety and security is not only noble but satisfying. The study of law and justice prepares students for employment and to respect the rights of individuals in their professional roles.

Why law and justice at CWU?

At CWU, law and justice students are active researchers who collaborate with faculty in their scholarly endeavors. 

Students gain a solid foundation in the history and philosophy of the legal and criminal justice systems while studying contemporary trends in law and society.

Students can earn their bachelor degree on the Ellensburg main campus, as well as branch campuses in Lynnwood and Des Moines. An online-only program is also available.

The Law and Justice Club offers students an opportunity to learn more about the field. Members participate in field trips, educational panels, and criminology conferences. Scholarship opportunities are available for law and justice students. Law and justice students have completed internships at the Center for Environmental Law and Policy; Columbia Legal Services; Defense Logistics Agency; Federal Bureau of Investigations; Federal Bureau of Prisons; Internal Revenue Service; Northwest Justice Project; and U.S. Department of Justice.

CWU’s Law and Justice Department is celebrating its 20th anniversary. While we are marking two decades since the establishment of the department, law and justice courses have been taught at Central for a much longer period of time.

Students can earn a law and justice degree at CWU campuses in Des Moines and Lynnwood.
