Should we consider caregivers part of captive social networks?

Jake Funkhouser (MS, '18) argues yes in a new publication out in the journal Primates.  Funkhouser, along with co-authors Mulcahy, Sheeran, and Mayhew, analyzed the various social networks of the chimpanzees at Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest and concluded that if you want to talk holistically about captive welfare, especially for sanctuary residents, you must consider the social role that caregivers play in their daily lives.
