Due to recent changes in Washington state law, CWU has discontinued its free weapons storage program for students.
Beginning in the fall of 2019, the university will no longer be storing items such as firearms and hunting bows at the University Police Department.
This change in policy means students who live ON CAMPUS must find an alternative storage method for weapons they use for sport shooting, target shooting and related activities.
Students who own firearms are encouraged to educate themselves about the law changes contained in Initiative 1639. The new law includes provisions for gun storage, gun transfers, enhanced background checks, and more.
The rest of CWU’s firearms policy remains unchanged. Carrying concealed weapons on campus is still prohibited, in compliance with the University Firearms Policy under Washington Administrative Code 106-127-700.
