Pumpkin Drop

The 2022 Pumpkin Drop & Trashcano Event will be held on Sunday, Oct 30, 2022 beginning at 12 pm noon and run until the last trashcano erupts and the last pumpkin falls! The event features trashcanoes erupting on the north side of Discovery Hall and pumpkins being dropped from the roof on the south side of Discovery Hall.The Pumpkin Drop and Trashcano event is an annual fundraiser sponsored by CWU’s Society of Physics Students (SPS), Astronomy and Geology Student clubs. All funds collected go to support club activities, outreach and fund scholarship.

Individuals and teams from on or off campus are invited to participate. There are two divisions: best decorated and loudest splat. Entry fee is $10/per pumpkin or $15/to enter both categories.

Prizes this year are $100 first place, $50 second and $25 third place for best decorated pumpkin or loudest splat.

Votes for best decorated pumpkin or loudest spat are $1.00 and can be done in person or online.

Attendees can reserve seating in one of five special VIP seating locations and pay online.
Free viewings areas are also available.

Participants will be able to live stream the entire event from their seated locations.

A special planetarium show will follow the event. Seats are $5.00/per person. Time will be determined by the conclusion of the Pumpkin Drop & Trashcano Event.

QR CodeTrashcanoes will erupt on the northwest side of Discovery Hall on the tiered steps just outside the Lydig Planetarium. Pumpkins will be dropped into the southwest courtyard of Discovery Hall. Email, go to or scan the QR code for additional information and details.
