Congratulations to Dr. Matthew Altman, whose sabbatical application for the 2019-2020 academic year was accepted. Dr. Altman will be on sabbatical for both Fall and Winter, and will be on a faculty release appointment Spring Quarter. During this time, Dr. Altman will be working on a book which is tentatively titled A Theory of Punishment: Deterrence, Retribution, and the Two-Tiered Model of Criminal Justice. In the book, Dr. Altman will defend a so-called mixed view of punishment, which incorporates elements of consequentialism and retributivism while avoiding their pitfalls.
