Paramedicine Students Earn Real-world Experience at Drive-thru Flu Shot Clinic

First-year Central Washington University paramedicine students Ben Pruett and Brian Dice had CWU Paramedicine Students Give Flu Shotssome experience with intramuscular injections in a classroom setting, but the Kittitas County Health Department’s drive-thru flu vaccine operation at the fairgrounds on Friday gave them a chance to put those skills to work.

The difference in those two settings? Outside the Western Village they encountered a little more squirming.

“It’s exposing us to a lot of pediatric patients,” Pruett said, as the screams of a young girl were heard coming out of a mini van behind him. “More kids than adults today, dealing with the screaming and things like that, it’s really fascinating.”
