Jump Start is an extended orientation program designed to facilitate the successful transition of students from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds as well as students who are first generation college students and who may be participating in the CAMP and TRIO/SSS Programs at CWU. We also encourage all Jump start participates to register and attend Admitted Student Day, which is an optional engagement opportunity in July. All students who participate in Jump Start will also be required to attend Week of Welcome in September.

- What is Jump Start?
Jump Start is an extended orientation program designed to facilitate the successful transition of underrepresented students to Central Washington University. Students from ethnic and under-represented and minoritized groups including undocumented students.
- When is Jump Start?
Jump Start will take place from Monday, September 11th – Friday, September 15, 2023. Students who sign up for the program commit to the full week of programming.
Jump Start Check-in and residence hall move-in is on Monday, September 11th at 10:00 a.m.
- If I have already attended Admitted Students Day, why should I also attend Jump Start?
The Jump Start program allows underrepresented students to connect with faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds and provides an in-depth exploration of university resources before classes begin. Jump Start students also participate in fun and interactive sessions on topics such as campus diversity, student involvement, budgeting, academic planning, and leadership.
- Is the room that I move in to for Jump Start the same room I will be living in during the academic year?
Yes. Jump Start students will move into their assigned residence hall room one week early at no additional charge, with the requirement that participants attend all Jump Start program sessions. Residence hall move-in is on Monday, September 11th at 10:00 a.m.
- Will meals be provided during Jump Start week?
Yes. Students will receive a meal plan for the duration of Jump Start week.
- What kind of activities will I participate in during Jump Start week?
Students participate in information and social discussions, activities, and field trips with faculty/staff and other students. Students will participate in sessions on campus related to a wide range of topics that are both fun and educational: diversity, equity, and inclusion training; learning how to become involved on campus as a student; personal finances and budgeting; academic planning and understanding your syllabi; and being a leader on campus.
