Thank You & Farewell Wildcats
Dear CWU Community,
As I prepare to step down as CWU president in just a few days, I want to again thank each of you for your support over the past dozen years. It has been an honor to work alongside faculty, staff, students, alumni, trustees, government leaders, and community members to build the strength and reputation of CWU as a welcoming community for all persons seeking a first-class university education.
When I first arrived at Central, I was struck by several things: the beauty of the campus, the friendliness of the people, and the commitment of the faculty and staff to doing what was best for Central. I immediately knew that I had come to a special community that not only accepted Katie and me, but made us feel like we belonged. And for that I thank you.
I am proud to say that working together we have accomplished much. I am even more pleased to say that through your continued efforts and support for incoming President Wohlpart, CWU is well-poised to continue its ascent. As I look ahead to the exciting opportunities and inevitable challenges that lie ahead, I know that CWU’s technology systems are well ahead of most universities; our system of shared governance is stronger than ever; our financial situation is solid; our teaching and learning spaces have been transformed and will continue to be enhanced in the immediate following years; and both our student and employee populations have grown far more diverse, bringing a richness and depth to our learning and our work.
Every day has been a joyous and rewarding experience for Katie and me. We hope it has been the same for you. For all of our successes, we credit each and every one of you for your hard work, your care for our students, and your belief that we can always, always, be better tomorrow than we are today.
Take care of yourself. Take care of each other. Take care of this very special place.
Go Wildcats!
