Start Gun Sounds on Cross Country Season This Saturday

The starting gun sounds on the Central Washington University cross country team's season this Saturday as the men and women take to the course in front of their home fans at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at Rotary Park in Ellensburg.

On the women's side, all five Wildcat's who scored points for the team at the GNAC championship race return to the roster. Alexa Shindruk sets the pace for the Wildcats. She finished 19th at the NCAA West Regional, earning All-West Region honors. Delaney Clem returns after finishing 40th in the GNAC championship race.

Joining the Wildcat women are some talented runners. Molly Mattson and Madison Child ran a 18:51 at the 5K distance. That mark is just 30 seconds behind Shindruk's best time. Katie Evans joins the team with a personal best of 19:29.

Plenty of speedy runners return to the men's team in 2018. Tyler Humphries finished 29th at last years conference meet, leading all Wildcats. Humphries will be pushed by teammate Josh Boston and Corbin Carlton. Boston's fastest time in the 8K is a 26:07, two seconds quicker than Humphries best. Carlton can finish 8K in 26:19.

New to the team is transfer student Drew Schreiber. Schreiber joins the Wildcats with a 24:58 as his personal best. turban Morlan is an incoming freshman who shows plenty of promise. Marlon ran a 15:34 at the 5K distance, and will get his first true test at 8K this Saturday.

NEXT TIME OUT
The Wildcats will return to action on September 22 when they compete at the Saint Martin's Invitational in Lacey, Washington.
