Mindset Workshops Enhance Student Motivation, Resiliency, and Grit

New tools and strategies for improving student achievement are the main fare of two workshops at Central Washington University on June 12. Marianne Auten, professor of counseling at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix, Arizona, will lead the powerful Mindset workshops, which are designed for educators and others who work with students.
The first workshop, "The Optimal Mindset: Who Achieves Goals and Why," runs from 2:00 to 3:15 p.m. The second, “Got Grit? Start With Mindset,” runs from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Both workshops will be held in the Wellington Event Center on the CWU campus, and are free and open to the public.
Auten uses Mindset, the work of renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck, to clearly link motivation and resiliency to student success.
Mindset became a workshop to teach students and faculty the powerful message of Dweck’s research and most importantly, how to put this new thinking into practice. It is also a part of every course Auten teaches in addition to workshops for faculty, student affairs, teacher training, peer mentors, tutors, parent groups, and recovery groups.
Auten holds a bachelor’s degree in geology from Northern Arizona University, a master of counseling degree from Arizona State University, and a doctorate in Higher Education and Adult Learning from Walden University.
The event is sponsored by Student Achievement in the CWU Student Success division.
