A Message From President James L. Gaudino

Dear CWU Staff and Faculty:

Sharon O’Hare, who has served as Central Washington University’s Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Management since 2016, will retire from the university effective October 31, 2019.

In her formal letter, Sharon said she was most appreciative of her time at Central and gratified to have been able to complete the school’s five-year strategic enrollment plan. As many of you know, during her tenure Central has seen substantial growth in first-year student enrollment.

I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Sharon for helping CWU to become one of Washington’s most desirable locations for college-bound students in recent years. She has brought a high level of professionalism and experience to our enrollment operations. Almost immediately after arriving at Central, she recognized the assets and benefits of a CWU education and aggressively began efforts to market all that we have to offer to potential students and their families.

While overseeing the Office of Admissions, the Game On program, and the departments of Student Financial Services and Enrollment Communications, Sharon was particularly effective at guiding the university to develop a predictable, sustainable model for future enrollment growth. She has helped us to develop better strategies for managing our recent growth as well as for expanding access to higher education, especially for underserved populations.

Because Sharon has generously agreed to stay for the next six months, we will begin a national search for her replacement immediately.

Sharon and her husband, Mike, plan to relocate to the Oregon coast to spend more time with each other and with family. Please join me in thanking Sharon for her service to the university.
