Men's Rugby Ready for Varsity Cup Rematch with Utah

For the second consecutive season, the Central Washington University men's rugby team will face the University of Utah in the quarterfinals of the Varsity Cup.
This Saturday, at 1 p.m. on the Wildcat Rugby Pitch in Ellensburg, Wash. the Wildcats will look to defeat the Utes as they did in a tightly played match last year, winning 26-24 on a penalty kick with a minute left to play.
"The last time we played Utah, it went down to the wire and was a very competitive match," CWU Head Coach Tony Pacheco said. "Utah is a very good team and we expect the same competition level as last year. If we execute our game plan well, we will put ourselves in position to move on."
The Wildcats are coming off an impressive 72-10 victory over Arizona State last weekend where they scored 55 unanswered points.
Scott Dean and Aladdin Schirmer helped power the CWU offense with both scoring a pair of tries in the contest. Coach Pacheco expects production from those two but also is hoping for balance across the board.
"It would be awesome for Aladdin and Scott to produce for us again, and they should get their chances, but if we execute the way we want to, all of our forwards should give us a chance to score some points."
If the Wildcats are victorious they will advance to the semi finals and play either BYU or UCLA on April 18.
Tickets for the event will be available at the Wildcat Rugby Pitch Saturday. Gates open at 11:30 a.m. and entry costs are $6 for adults, $3 for kids, CWU students and children 5 and under are free.
