I-90 Construction May Impact Travel to CWU Commencement

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) officials warn of potential travel impacts on I-90 for students and their families attending Central Washington University's graduation this weekend. Traffic Jam

Travelers are urged to leave early and avoid impacted areas during peak periods.

There are a number of construction projects taking place on I-90 between North Bend and Cle Elum.

“Over the past few weekends, we have seen delays for drivers heading east on Friday near North Bend due to bridge work and a concrete repair project,” WSDOT spokesperson Meagan Lott said.

On Fridays, eastbound drivers have experienced between four to six miles of back-ups, which start around 11 a.m. and continue until 9 p.m. Families and students heading east on Friday are advised to get an early start to avoid these back-ups.

On Sunday, there may be increased delays and back-ups for those drivers heading westbound between Cle Elum and Easton. Again, the earlier students and their families can leave Sunday morning, the better chance of avoiding traffic.
