Gail Mackin Named Associate Provost of Undergraduate and Faculty Affairs

Katherine Frank, provost and vice president for academic and student life at Central Washington University, has selected Gail Mackin to serve as associate provost of undergraduate and faculty affairs. She begins her new position on August 1, 2017.

Mackin previously was senior associate dean for the College of Arts and Sciences at Northern Kentucky University (NKU) and worked with faculty and department chairs in the college to coordinate curriculum development and assessment, formulate and implement scheduling strategies, create and review college-wide policies and processes, and analyze data to initiate improvements within the college.

“We’re extremely fortunate to have someone with Dr. Mackin’s experience and skills joining us at Central,” Frank said. “In addition to being familiar with the Responsibility Centered Management budget model that we have adopted at CWU, she brings a history of developing and fostering collaborative relationships with faculty and staff.  Dr. Mackin is also a strong supporter of undergraduate research and creative activity and has mentored students throughout her time as both a faculty member and as an administrator.”

AT NKU, Mackin served as associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, interim chair (and assistant chair) of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and professor of mathematics.

She has been recognized by the Mathematical Association of America Kentucky Section with the Distinguished College or University Mathematics Teacher of the Year Award and has been principal investigator and co-director of two successive National Science Foundation scholarships in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics grants.

Mackin earned her PhD and MS in mathematics from Virginia Tech and has a BS in mathematics and physics from Keene State College in New Hampshire.
