CWU, YVCC split $3.25M grant to attract Hispanic students
Yakima Valley Community College and Central Washington University have received a $3.25 million grant to attract and keep more Hispanic students even as Hispanic enrollment continues to grow.
Under the “Finish What You Started” grant, the schools would share a combined $650,000 per year over the next five years. It is part of the U.S. Department of Education Title V’s efforts to develop Hispanic-serving institutions across the country.
“These are highly competitive grants that are only available to federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institutions, such as Yakima Valley Community College,” said YVCC President Linda Kaminski in a written statement. “This is an outstanding opportunity to collaboratively develop and implement new strategies that will help students to more quickly complete their degrees and to promote a smooth transition to Central Washington University.”
