CWU Wins Two Gold Marketing Awards for Sophomore Year Experience Campaign

Central Washington University has won two first place marketing awards from the Association of College and University Housing Officers - International (ACHUO-I). CWU’s Housing program, which is responsible for the university’s orientation program, earned gold in the “Printed Other” and “Newsletter” categories.
“A marketing award like this means that we are helping tell that story even better so that others can learn about the great opportunities found at CWU,” said Richard DeShields, associate dean for student living.
The ACUHO-I 2016 Marketing Awards recognize well-designed and innovative media in residence life and housing operations. ACUHO-I members include more than 1,000 campuses and 250 companies and organizations worldwide whose purpose is to advance the campus housing profession in service of students.
CWU’s FYE Orientation and Housing award-winning submission consisted of branded collateral—a poster, two-sided flyer and t-shirt—designed for the 2015 First Year Experience and Transfer Welcome events. The materials were designed by Yuen To “Toto” Ng, a student graphic designer who graduated in June of 2015.
The Sophomore Year Experience 2015-16 Newsletter earned Central its second first-place win. Laurel Fisher, a student graphic artist and 2016 graduate, designed the publication. This newsletter targets second-year undergraduate students and provides them with information on personal development and campus engagement through academic, residential, and co-curricular programs.
Ng’s work was completed during her internship and Fisher’s as a student graphic designer in the Publicity Center, which has a long-standing relationship with Housing. The Publicity Center employs student interns and staff workers and has produced these types of marketing products for nearly 20 years.
