CWU Volleyball Earns 4th Seed in NCAA Divison II Tournament


The Central Washington University volleyball team has earned its third consecutive berth to the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament being selected as the fourth seed and with face fifth-seeded BYU-Hawaii in the first round of the tournament, which starts on Thursday, November 20 in Nampa, Idaho.

"We are extremely happy to be selected to this tournament, and feel like we earned it this season," CWU head coach Mario Andaya said. "We played a very tough schedule and beat some very good teams, I couldn't be more happy for our girls, their hard work has paid off."

The Wildcats, who finished the season with a 19-7 record, will face the Seasiders for the eighth time with BYU-Hawaii owning a 6-1 record over CWU.  The Wildcats won the last matchup 3-1 back in 2009 in Ellensburg.  BYU Hawaii won the Pacwest conference with a 18-2 record, 21-5 overall, and was the 2013 National runner-up.

"BYU-Hawaii is a very tough team, as are all the team in this tournament," Andaya said about his upcoming matchup. "We are going to watch some film and come into Thursday with a game plan to put us in position to succeed."

Great Northwest Athletic Conference foe Northwest Nazarene earned the top seed in the tournament and will host the West Regional on their home court.  The GNAC dominates the West Regional rankings holding the top four seeds in the tournament.  Alaska Anchorage comes in as the second seed followed by Western Washington at three.

If the Wildcats defeat BYUH on Thursday they will face the winner of the #1 NNU vs. #8 Dixie State matchup on Friday.
