CWU Track and Field Victorious at War VII

Both the Central Washington University men's and women's track teams won the Spokane Community College WAR VII this weekend, scoring 127 and 120 points respectively.

Both teams had multiple second place finishes and won a total of six events.

On the women's side, Megan Rodgers won the 10,000-meter run with a time of 36:37.38, breaking the school record in the event that was held by Marcie Mullen.  The time put Rodgers under the national provisional mark by over 19 seconds.

"Friday was a great day for Megan." CWU Head Coach Kevin Adkisson said. "This was an amazing accomplishment for her and I'm anxious to see the marks she puts up next week."

Also winning events on the women's side was the 4x400 relay team, McKenna Emmert in the Pole Vault and Amanda Youngers in the shot put.

The 4x400 relay team got an early lead Ashley Harmon and Jayna Interbitzen sealed the deal as the anchor helping the team to a time of 4:00.87.

Emmert posted her best outdoor vault of the season of 3.50 meters (11-feet 5.75 inches), beating the next competitor by nearly a foot.

Youngers won the shot put with a mark of 13.03 meters (42-feet 9 inches), winning the event by just three inches.  Youngers also took fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 45.90 meters.  Both marks were personal records for Youngers.

On the men's side Jordan Todd won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.17.  Last weekend he ran 10.77, but a head wind in Spokane had an affect on all runners on the day.

"It was a tough day just due to conditions," Adkisson explained about the wind. "The wind made it tough but we asked our runners to work hard and make the most of their opportunities, and they did just that."

Kevin Stanley was the other individual winner for the men, posting a mark of 15.62 meter in the shot put, more than a meter ahead of the runner up.

John Wojtech again placed well in the 800-meter run placing second with a time of 1:55.46, and was edged by less than a second.

The track and field team will next host its lone meet of the season next weekend in Ellensburg at the Spike Arlt Invitational at Tomlinson Stadium at 10 a.m.
