CWU students lend a hand during Yakima River Cleanup

Eighty Central Washington University students helped clear weeds, cut brush and clean up a CWU-owned park on the corner of Seventh Avenue and Walnut Street on Saturday during the 43rd Yakima River Cleanup in Ellensburg.
"It needed it," said Ellensburg stormwater manager Jon Morrow.
Wilson Creek runs through the property and eventually dumps into the Yakima. Morrow said the city partnered with CWU and Kittitas County Solid Waste to clean things up. It was the first time people turned out to clean the park since CWU’s Courson and Muzzall Halls were demolished.

Volunteers removed 1,300 pounds of organics from the park and placed 2,400 pounds of compost, according to the Center for Leadership and Community Engagement.
