CWU Looks to Bring Joy to Lives of Area Children During Holidays

Deliver some holiday cheer to children in our community this month by donating a gift to the Holiday Gift Project at Central Washington University.

The annual giving initiative — which is being held virtually this year — offers participants a chance to make a heartfelt and personal gesture to children in need by providing them with a gift (or gifts) from their own wish lists.

The 2020 gift program began earlier this month and will continue for the next couple of weeks. There are still 125 local kids who need sponsorships this year, and each child must be individually sponsored. Last year’s project sponsored more than 300 children.

This year, because of public safety concerns, project participants are asked to order items online that can be delivered directly to the child welfare agency. People also have the option of shopping for gifts and dropping them off curbside during a few specified dates in early or mid-December.

Gift purchases should be completed as soon as possible because delivery deadlines vary by agency. Specific instructions about dropping off your gift will be sent along with your sponsorship confirmation email.

This year’s Holiday Gift Project supports the Washington Department of Youth, Children, and Families; Seedlings of Kittitas County; and CWU’s Early Childhood Learning Center.

Since some requests are “needs” as much as “wants,” participants are urged to choose both a practical gift and a fun one, if possible. Please note: Monetary donations can no longer be accepted.

The CWU Office of the President still needs help from members of the campus community to fulfill our goal of bringing joy to kids in our area during the holiday season.
