CWU Campus Alert! Test Part of Shakeout Drill at 10:15 a.m.

The Great Washington ShakeOut is an annual earthquake preparedness drill intended to increase public awareness of the hazards due to earthquakes, and of the steps people can take before, during and after an earthquake to help them get through it safely. Remember to “Drop! Cover! Hold on!” as part of the drill.

Central will use the ShakeOut to test CWU Alert!, Central's emergency alert system.

On Thursday, October 15 at 10:15 a.m., the CWU Campus Alert system will send out a campuswide alert as part of this drill.

CWU Alert! combines the technologies of text messaging, e-mail, and telephone messages to be sent instantly to campus community subscribers whenever there is a campus emergency. CWU Alert! is immediately activated when an incident poses an imminent threat to the safety of the community.

Also, from October 12 to 15, the CWU Cascadia Hazards Institute is leading assemblies in local elementary and middle schools with information about earthquakes and earthquake preparedness for students, teachers, administrators and their families.
