New Location for Student Counseling Services

Student Counseling Services has moved!

Student Counseling Services is now located in Black Hall, Suite 225.  We are excited to be in our new location and to serve the students of CWU from a more centralized location. When referring students, please have them call 509-963-1391 or come by Black 225-30 to make an appointment.

We continue to offer urgent mental health care appointments as well as workshops, group therapy, and short-term individual counseling.

Faculty, staff, and students are welcome to help students connect with us to request a routine or urgent appointment.  We will need to be able to speak with the student directly to assess their needs and connect them with our services.

As we are no longer co-located with Student Health Services (who we miss!), we are asking the CWU community to help us help students by making sure students are medically safe prior to directing them (or bringing them) to Student Counseling Services.  This is important as we are no longer able to directly access medical care for students within our building.  Example of possible mental health crises that first need medical attention are:

  • Student reports trouble breathing, chest pains, shortness of breath
  • Student has recently fainted
  • Student demonstrates significant intoxication
  • Student reports of ingesting pills or other substances in unsafe amounts
  • Student recently injured themselves in a way that is not superficial in nature
  • Any other instance in which there is the possibility that the student's physical health has been compromised.

In these cases, we encourage the community to call 911 to receive assistance for the student's physical wellbeing prior to connecting them with Student Counseling Services.

The safety and wellbeing of our students, our staff, and our community is our highest priority.  We thank you for your care and concern, for helping students get connected to the supports that best meet their physical and mental health needs, and for making the wellbeing of our entire community a priority.  If you have any questions about our services, policies, or practices, please reach out to Dr. Cindy Bruns, Director of Counseling, at 509-963-1638.
