Samuelson Commons Named for Dale and Mary Jo Comstock

Samuelson Hall opened on the Ellensburg campus in 2018.
The common area of Samuelson Hall has been named the Dale and Mary Jo Comstock Commons to honor former professor Dale Comstock and his late wife, Mary Jo, for their support of Central Washington University.
A dedication ceremony is set for Saturday, October 23, from 3-5 p.m. inside Samuelson Hall on the CWU campus. The celebration is free and anyone may attend.
“We thank Dale Comstock and his late wife Mary Jo for all of their philanthropic support,” said Paul Elstone, CWU’s vice president of University Advancement and executive director of the CWU Foundation. “The impact they have made will be felt by faculty, staff, and students who gather in the Comstock Commons for decades to come.”
Dale Comstock graduated from Central in 1955 and began his career at the university as an assistant professor of mathematics and director of the computer center in 1964. He served as the dean of graduate studies and research from 1970-1990 and retired as an emeritus professor of mathematics in 1996.
Mary Jo Comstock was a 1956 CWU graduate who worked for various deans in the arts and sciences throughout her career. She retired as secretary to the dean of arts and humanities in 1997.
