The CWU music department has a proud heritage of preparing music education students to not only enter their profession but to succeed. Because CWU is the center of music education in the state of Washington, we are motivated to offer camps to inspire young musicians and to make a difference in their lives.
CWU Drum Major/Leadership Camp, July 9-13, 2017
The CWU Drum Major/Leadership Academy is designed to prepare drum majors, band officers, and section leaders for the responsibilities and challenges they will encounter as leaders in their band programs. Classes are focused on conducting, voice commands, marching band techniques, marching pedagogy, competition procedures, rehearsal techniques, and discipline. Drum Major Academy students also participate in a Symphonic Band.

CWU Symphonic Band Camp, July 9-13, 2017
The CWU Symphonic Band Camp, conducted by Professor Mark Lane, has one of the best teacher/student ratios of any band camp in the Northwest. The staff for the camp includes CWU faculty, as well as some of the premiere high school instructors and professional musicians in the state. Learn music theory and participate in master classes, music sectionals, and small ensembles. This camp offers students a chance to get a head start on the upcoming year by spending a week of intense music study at CWU!
Jazz Camp, July 23-29, 2017
As a Jazz Camp participant you will be busy making music all week long! You’ll participate in improv classes or combos, big bands, apply jazz theory to your playing, and work directly with our amazing faculty on a daily basis in master classes. You will end the week by both attending and performing at Ellensburg’s Jazz In The Valley event!.
