The piano program at Central is designed to give students the opportunity to develop to the fullest as pianists, teachers and individuals. The students of Dr. John and Barbara Pickett are enrolled in a variety of Music degree programs. A student’s performance ability, musicianship and musical/aesthetical values are at the core of each degree. Careful attention is paid to performance preparation and to technical understanding and training with success in performance being given the highest priority.
There is a strong sense of support and community in Dr. Pickett’s studio. Pianists are motivated to perform often and are given the opportunity to perform new repertoire in various stages of development. As a result, the piano students of John and Barbara Pickett are able to achieve new levels of excellence while performing challenging repertoire.
With an abundance of Chamber music opportunities piano students are constantly involved in giving ensemble and duo recitals. Each year, Dr. Pickett, in his Chamber music classes, coaches numerous piano-chamber groups in rehearsal and towards performance. As developing young professionals, Piano students learn how to prepare for rehearsals and to come to understand the values of pianistic and interpersonal communication so necessary for a successful chamber performance.
