First Musica Antiqua Concert on Sept. 22

Members of the CWU Department of Music will present the first of this year's Musica Antiqua concerts in the McIntyre Music Building Recital Hall on Friday, September 22 at 7 PM. This program features a wide variety of music, beginning with madrigals for choir, then demonstrting elaborate solos for cornetto, sackbut and traverso, and finishing with vocal fireworks in an early cantata by Handel. Titled "The Art of Ornamentation" the focus of this program is on the many ways skilled performers work beyond the notes on the page to bring a sense of improvisation to the performance of seventeenth and eighteenth century music.  Participants include Melissa Schiel, Hal Ott, Zane Boothby, Margret Gries, Chuck Colburn and the CWU Chamber Choir directed by Gary Weidenaar. This event is free and open to the public.
