Band & Orchestra Auditions

If you wish to be considered for Band or the Symphony Orchestra, you will need to go through the audition process. Auditions are required for acceptance into all of the large instrumental ensembles. A faculty committee conducts these auditions near the beginning of each quarter.

Bands

Audition results from Fall 2020 will hold into winter quarter with adjustments being made to the rosters for those who are student teaching or have graduated, based on the needs of the bands. Any new students (not currently involved in the band program) interested in auditioning for a band ensemble should contact the directors.

  2. Orchestral performance – Students will prepare orchestral excerpts through Canvas and receive instructor feedback.

Auditions and Excerpts

Winter 2021 orchestra auditions were done virtually by submitting a video by January 8, 2021.

The excerpts are posted on Canvas. If you do not have access yet, please contact Dr. Caoile for the excerpts.

Chamber Orchestra - Winter 2021

Chamber Orchestra will be meeting with a live rehearsal/performance model for Winter 2021. To ensure the safety of all involved, the ensemble has been limited to no more than 21 musicians with strings joined by minimal winds. Repertoire for Winter term includes Ellen Taaffe Zwilich’s Concerto Grosso 1985 and Igor Stravinsky’s Dumbarton Oaks Concerto.

The first week of winter quarter will consist of audition video submissions. The second week of the quarter will involve a series of small lectures to learn about the music, as well as marking up parts and prepping for the first rehearsal to be held in week 3.

Rehearsal times are MWF 12-12:50 in the concert hall.

Covid Safety

  • All students will be masked in the room while not playing
  • All wind players will use bell covers on the instruments at all times (with the exception of the flutes who will use a mask at the mouthpiece. I am not enforcing the instrument bags, but I do support the use of those. Failure to have required PPE will disqualify student from live rehearsal. Students will be responsible for purchasing PPE
  • All string players will be masked the entire time.
