Welcome to the University Math Center!

Schedule an Appointment

To make an appointment or ask questions, call 509-963-1270, or email us at tutoring@cwu.edu

The CWU Math Center provides a space to work on your math and friendly tutors to assist you with questions.

Check in anytime, grab a sign from the Learning Commons front desk, stretch out at one of our whiteboard tables, and work on your own for as long as you like. If you have a question, a tutor is close by to offer support and help clarify concepts. You can also book a Zoom consultation and have a live video or audio conversation with a CWU math tutor.

Getting assistance with your math is easier than ever with our new app! Search your app store for Retain Mobile, or visit cwu.retain.io.

  • Access Our Services Remotely

All CWU students, including those attending CWU remotely or at campus centers, may access these services:

Zoom Sessions: You can schedule a Zoom session and have a live video or audio conversation with a CWU writing tutor. Most similar to a face-to-face conversation in the Math Center, this method gives you immediate assistance with the ability to screenshare, clarify ideas, and ask questions as they arise. To book a Zoom session, use the same link above or the Retain Mobile app.

eTutoring: The CWU Learning Commons participates in the Northwest eConsortium, a collection of institutions that pool their resources to offer tutoring in a wide variety of subjects, including math. Access eTutoring from the Learning Commons website.

  • Read Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get help for any math class?

The CWU Math Center supports all general education quantitative reasoning courses, all 100-level math and physics courses, and many other courses that have a mathematical basis. We staff tutors who have expertise in math, physics, and actuarial science. While we can't support all classes on a drop-in basis, we are able to help you connect with a tutor in a certain area. We can also facilitate study groups based on our tutors' content knowledge.

Can I do my math homework in the Math Center?

Yes. Check in at the Learning Commons front desk, find a space, and work as long as you like. If you have a question, tutors are always close by.

Can a tutor help me with a quiz or test?

As a general rule, no, as this is considered academic dishonesty. However, some professors do allow students to get help on take-home quizzes. If this is the case, please ask your professor to communicate directly with us so that we do not violate assignment expectations. Unless we have heard from your professor, we cannot help you with a quiz or test.

Can I request a study group in the Math Center?

Yes, unless it's for a class that is already supported by PALs (please see the PALs schedule).
