Dr. David Wain Coon is currently the Superintendent/President of College of Marin in Marin County, California. Prior to College of Marin, he held the positions of President of Evergreen Valley College in San Jose, California, Vice President for Student Success at Cascadia Community College, Executive Dean of Student Services at Green River Community College, Vice President of Student Services at The Art Institute of Seattle, and Director of Student Development at Pierce College, all in Washington.
In addition to being a recognized leader in education, Coon has been a recognized leader locally and regionally. Prior to moving to San Jose, Coon served as a state trustee and regional board member for Children’s Home Society of Washington and as a board member for the Central Washington University Alumni Association. Coon previously served as chair of a state-wide citizen’s advisory council on alcoholism and drug addiction. He currently serves on the boards for the Asian Americans for Community Involvement and Somos Mayfair in San Jose.
Coon has a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications and public relations from Central Washington University, a Master of Education degree in Student Personnel Administration from Western Washington University and a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership and Organizational Development from Seattle University.
Coon was presented with the 2006 Special Achievement Award by the Central Washington University Alumni Association. In May 2007, Central Washington University dedicated the David Wain Coon Center for Excellence in Leadership.
