Save the Date

The Center for Leadership and Community Engagement hosts the annual Evening of Recognition, a celebration of students, staff and faculty who have made an impact in the lives of others and frequently go above and beyond. The ceremony is scheduled to be broadcasted virtually on Friday, June 4th at 5:00 p.m.  

Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to nominate themselves or others for the following awards. Feel free to submit as many nominations as possible so we can do our best to honor incredible humans at CWU. 

Nominations are open for the following awards until April 23. 

  • David Wain Coon Student Leader of the Year

    The David Wain Coon Student Leader of the Year Award goes to a Student Leader for their exceptional work and continuous dedication to the success of Central Washington University. This student leader goes above and beyond the duties of their leadership responsibilities by executing initiatives and uplifting student voices at (micro and/or macro level). They impact the CWU community, develop student leaders, encourage involvement, and foster a sense of collaboration, CWU pride, and community.

    Eligibility: This award goes to a current student leader involved in a club, organization, campus position or other forms of student involvement at CWU for at least one year.

    • A successful nominee must meet the following criteria:
      • Leadership and contribution to their direct and campus-wide community
      • Goes above and beyond in a student leadership position (club, organization, student employment, volunteering or any additional student involvement)
      • Serves as an advocate for the student voice for the CWU community
      • Exhibits a positive attitude and willingness to go beyond what is expected when supporting students and peers
      • Brings energy and enthusiasm to their position
      • Motivates and inspires other CWU students
      • Sincerely and consistently fulfills their responsibilities at a high level of performance
  • Rising Student Leader Award

    The Rising Student Leader Award recognizes a CWU student who has contributed to the success of a club, organization, or other student involvement.  We believe leadership capacity exists in everyone and leadership can be modeled in anyone. This individual models leadership in their respective involvement by taking personal initiative, demonstrating critical thinking skills, and exemplifies leadership within their area.  This student can include new first-year and new transfer students who have recently gotten involved and are anticipated to continue their leadership journey at CWU and beyond.  

    Eligibility: This award goes to a current student leader or member involved in a club, organization, campus position or other forms of student involvement at CWU. This student can be a new CWU student (as early as their first-quarter at CWU).

    • A successful nominee must meet the following criteria:
      • Demonstrates personal initiative to help the organization/club be successful
      • Model’s leadership in their area of involvement
      • Goes above and beyond in their area of involvement
      • Serves as an advocate for the student voice within their area of involvement
      • Brings energy and enthusiasm or a new perspective to their area of involvement
      • Sincerely and consistently fulfills their responsibilities at a high level of performance
  • Advisor of the Year Award

    The Advisor of the Year goes to a student club or organization advisor who goes above and beyond to support and develop students. This individual strives to make connections with others, and provides invaluable leadership within their respective club, student organization, honor society, etc.

    Eligibility: This award goes to a current advisor of student members/student leaders within a university club or student organization.

    • A successful nominee must meet the following criteria:
      • Commitment to the club/organization’s growth by challenging membership when needed and providing members support when navigating challenges
      • Exhibits a positive attitude and willingness to go beyond what is expected when supporting students and staff
      • Brings energy and enthusiasm to their position and CWU community
      • Sincerely and consistently fulfills their responsibilities at a high level of performance
      • Allows and empowers the club/organization to be fully student led while providing guided support, and advice, while ultimately allowing the student leaders to make their own informed decisions. 
  • Inspirational Staff Award

    The Inspirational Staff Award is presented to a CWU staff member who is committed to motivating and inspiring CWU students. The award will be presented to someone who demonstrates positive influence, dedication, and leadership at CWU. This person serves as a role model for students and committed to student success. This staff member may serve in any functional area at CWU including (but not limited to) Student Success, Facilities, Operations, Information Services, and more.

    Eligibility: This award goes to a current CWU staff member (including classified, administrative professionals, coaches, and other staff) at any of the CWU locations.

    • A successful nominee must meet the following criteria:
      • Ability to establish positive relationships with students
      • Demonstrates positive influence, dedication, and leadership at CWU
      • Actively serves as a role model for students and is committed to holistic student success
      • Ability to inspire, motivate and advocate for CWU students
  • Inspirational Faculty Award

    The Inspirational Faculty Award is presented to a CWU faculty member who is committed to motivating and inspiring CWU students. The award will be presented to someone who demonstrates positive influence, dedication, and leadership at CWU. This person serves as a role model for students and committed to student success.

    Eligibility: This award goes to a current CWU faculty member (including faculty, instructors, and other faculty) at any of the CWU locations.

    • A successful nominee must meet the following criteria:
      • Ability to establish positive relationships with students
      • Demonstrates positive influence, dedication, and leadership at CWU
      • Actively serves as a role model for students and is committed to holistic student success
      • Ability to inspire, motivate and advocate for CWU students
