WorldCat Connections: Winter Four-week Intensive English Courses

February 7-March 4, 2021 (in the U.S.)
February 8-March 5, 2021 (Japan/Korea Time Zone)  

Language instruction and skills development with UESL program instructors.
Cost: $220 per course, plus $3.50 registration processing fee.
Registration Deadline: January 27, 2021

Improve English language knowledge and skills with fun and interesting classes taught by UESL Program instructors. All courses will meet live online via Zoom and will include approximately 20 hours of instruction. Each class has a maximum enrollment of 16.

Zoom links and passcodes will be sent by e-mail one week before the start of the class.

Students will receive evaluations and a certificate on completion of their course(s).

Six courses are offered for two different levels; you may sign up for one, two, or three of these. Students may self-select their level. If you are not sure about your level, you may arrange a level check. This will consist of a Zoom interview and a writing sample to help us determine which classes/levels would be best for you. Write to UESL@cwu.edu to request a level check.

Courses Offered

  • Reading Skills and Vocabulary A (recommended level: high-beginner – intermediate): improve reading skills and increase vocabulary knowledge through high-interest articles on a variety of topics. (9-9:50 AM Japan/Korea, 4-4:50 PM U.S. Pacific Time)
  • Reading Skills and Vocabulary B (recommended level: high-intermediate - advanced): improve reading skills and increase vocabulary knowledge through high-interest articles on a variety of topics. (9-9:50 AM Japan/Korea, 4-4:50 PM U.S. Pacific Time)
  • Oral Communication A (recommended level: high-beginner – intermediate): develop speaking and listening skills with level-appropriate lectures, presentations, and small group discussion activities. (10-10:50 AM Japan/Korea, 5-5:50 PM U.S. Pacific Time)
  • Oral Communication  B (recommended level: high-intermediate - advanced): develop speaking and listening skills with lectures, presentations, and small group discussion activities. (10-10:50 AM Japan/Korea, 5-5:50 PM U.S. Pacific Time)
  • English Through Songs (recommended level: high-beginner - intermediate): learn English vocabulary and grammar through song lyrics and readings about popular music and musicians. (11-11:50 AM Japan/Korea, 6-6:50 PM U.S. Pacific Time)
  • American Culture and Context (recommended level: high-intermediate - advanced): study interesting aspects of American culture while developing English reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. (11-11:50 AM Japan/Korea, 6-6:50 PM U.S. Pacific Time)
