University English as a Second Language Program

Important Notice!

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, University English as a Second Language will suspend its regular, in-person program for spring quarter 2021 and summer quarter 2021. We expect to resume in-person classes in fall quarter (September 20, 2021). Applications are still being accepted for that start time or later.

The UESL Program provides challenging language learning opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom. Whether it is to prepare students for admission to American colleges or universities, to improve English language skills, or to further one's professional career, students at UESL will receive high quality, caring instruction from professional English instructors. Students can take part in many interesting trips organized by the UESL Program. In the past, favorite trips included visiting cosmopolitan Seattle, scenic Leavenworth, local museums, the nearby mountains for hiking and skiing, and the Columbia River for sightseeing.

The Mission of Central Washington University’s UESL Program is:

  • to provide high-quality English language instruction, university preparation, and student services in a supportive, respectful environment;
  • to help students meet their personal, professional, and academic goals;
  • to foster global understanding, sensitivity, and engagement;
  • to enhance CWU’s diversity.
