Located on the central-eastern coast, Brisbane is the capital and largest city of the state of Queensland, as well as the third largest city in Australia.  European settlement dates back to the 1820s and the foundation of the penal colony at Radcliffe, with settlement of free persons coming in the 1840s.  Brisbane’s modern metropolis is known for its port and as a hub for tourism, as well as home to a number of both service and manufacturing industries.

One of several higher education institutions in Brisbane, Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is one of Australia’s top universities, known for research in a variety of disciplines.  It is home to such research units as the Dementia Collaborative Research Centre, the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation, the Institute for Creative Industries and Innovation and the Institute for Sustainable Resources, among others.

QUT traces its history as far back as 1849 and the founding of the Brisbane School of Arts, which then evolved and consolidated with other institutions to become the present QUT in 1990.  The university has two campuses, the central Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove just to the north. They are linked by a free bus service, and the 10-minute ride makes it feasible for students to take classes on both campuses.

QUT's Business School is AACSB- and EQUIS-accredited.
