University travel policy (CWUP 2-10-150) mandates all Central Washington University employees traveling internationally on university business purchase supplemental international health and emergency services insurance, and Office of International Studies and Programs (OISP) is tasked with managing enrollment and billing. CWU has secured a group plan through Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI); plan information may be found here: Evidence of Coverage.
When completing a Travel Authorization, employees should budget $1.67 (subject to change) per day of travel for insurance coverage.
To enroll, employees should contact Office of International Studies and Programs with the following information:
Please note that insurance coverage under this policy may not be purchased for personal travel or for dependents. Employees combining personal and university travel may purchase coverage only for the period(s) they are conducting university business.
The cost associated with insurance should be covered by the unit(s) sponsoring travel. (NB: According to past advice from the Office of the Provost, the academic department is responsible for the insurance costs of faculty members on sabbatical.) To facilitate billing, please also include the appropriate speedkey to which the charges will be applied. OISP will apply the charge via journaling.
This policy is not trip cancellation insurance and, thus, does not provide coverage for financial losses associated with canceled programs, canceled or delayed flights, lost or delayed baggage beyond the limits outlined in the Explanation of Benefits, and other similar situations. Travelers may wish to purchase such insurance separately, though the decision to do so ultimately lies with each individual.
The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service to allow U.S. citizens and nationals traveling abroad to enroll their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
CWU travelers are strongly encouraged to enroll themselves once their travel has been approved: https://step.state.gov/.
