Agreement Templates

The agreement templates included below are intended to help start the drafting process.  They are designed to require as little modification as possible, though some will require more than others.  Moreover, individuals proposing new partnerships should share a draft with their contacts and other officials at the proposed partner institution to ensure that the terms of the CWU agreement are an acceptable starting point. Some institutions may wish to suggest further modifications based on their policies or needs.  Any such modifications will require approval by the Office of International Studies and Programs (OISP), Business Services and Contracts, and the Assistant Attorney General assigned to CWU.

Prior to proceeding with editing a template and drafting an agreement, faculty members should consult with OISP and the appropriate department(s) and college(s) in order to discuss their proposal and gauge interest and likelihood of approval.  Formal review and approval will be accomplished through the Proposal Routing Form linked below.

OISP is responsible for reviewing the document and forwarding it for signature. Please note that agreements either general or program-specific are to be signed by the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs (Provost).  Faculty members do not have the authority to sign agreements on behalf of the university.

Proposal Routing Form
Faculty and staff proposing new, renewed or amended agreements should use this form to ensure all invested parties have reviewed and approved of the proposal prior to moving forward.

General Templates

General Memorandum of Understanding
This one-page document simply establishes a relationship between CWU and the institution abroad and should be completed prior to proceeding with any program-specific agreements.

  • A version of this Memorandum of Understanding template is available in Chinese by request by emailing Rachel.Gordon@cwu.edu.

Letter of Renewal and Amendment
This short document allows for easy renewal or targeted amendment of an existing agreement.  An example may be found here.

Program-Specific Agreements

2+2 Dual Degree Template and 3+2 Degree Template
Under the agreement, students complete part of a degree at the partner university before coming to CWU to complete CWU degree requirements. The 3+2 agreement relates to admission to the graduate school during the final year of undergraduate study at the partner institution. Upon successful completion, students earn the undergraduate degree from their home institution and the graduate degree from CWU.

Undergraduate Exchange Program Template and Graduate Exchange Template
The student exchange agreements includes detailed terms on the specific responsibilities for both incoming and outgoing exchange participants.  Given the financial implications of such programs, as well as limitations placed on them by Washington state law, faculty members interested in establishing new exchanges must consult with Study Abroad and Exchange Programs prior to proceeding.

Faculty Mobility Program Template
